A relaxing base beside the beach
A wonderful base for couples and families alike this is a lively hotel with good facilities, excellent cuisine and benefits from a superb beachfront setting; Kombo promises a fun, atmospheric and comfortable stay beside the ocean in The Gambia. There are so many elements to the hotel that are guaranteed to captivate and occupy guests of all ages, from the refreshing pool and enticing sandy beach, to the daytime activities such as water polo and table tennis.
Whatever your interests, you should find something to suit at Kombo Beach - during the day you can join in with pool games or aerobics, take tennis lessons or wander around the tropical gardens doing a little birdwatching with the resident guide, not to mention the beauty salon – there’s a little something extra for everyone.
Relax and unwind in your room
The guest rooms have a light and airy feel, decorated using neutral tones making it easy to relax. Set within three-storey buildings amongst the gardens, rooms range from standard through to suites, so both couples and families of all ages can enjoy this vibrant hotel. Their spacious feel is enhanced by the large sliding door windows, leading to either a private balcony or patio where you can sit and listen to the ocean. Guests have a choice of upgraded rooms, including superior and premium rooms which were refurbished during 2016, offering a more modern feel with additional facilities. These rooms are very popular and early booking is recommended.
Food, fun and entertainment
When the evening rolls in, enjoy a fruity cocktail or bottle of Julbrew, dine either buffet-style or à la carte and listen to the African drumming troupe accompanied by dancers - or perhaps it will be a reggae band or bingo – you’ll discover that each evening holds a completely different entertainment experience. The hotel offers different places to eat including the two restaurants and the Barracuda snack bar serving throughout the day and evening, along with three bars for a refreshing drink or two, including a wine bar. Breakfast and themed buffet dinners (for those on half board) are served in the attractive Kudula Restaurant under a canopy or around the pool, while a more intimate atmosphere can be found in The Brasserie with its à la carte menu and daily specials. For Winter 2018 meat fondue evenings may take place on the beach deck, reservations required.
Set in the heart of Kotu
The resort of Kotu with its excellent beach is a popular, quieter alternative to Kololi and there are a couple of other hotels with restaurants open to outside guests, a craft market, beach bars and a small selection of local restaurants. A short walk from the hotel will bring you to Kotu Stream, a perfect spot to enjoy the variety of birdlife that reside in the area.
Steps to going plastic free
In their first step to go plastic free Kombo Beach have stopped (both in the bars and in the minimarket at the entrance of the hotel) the sale of any water in plastic bottles. Kombo Beach instead have reusable aluminium bottles available for purchase which can be refilled in any outlet with filtered water - and at half the price of an old plastic bottle of water. Restaurant guests can buy jars of water for their meal.
