Longest Black Run in Europe

Situated in the Dauphine Alps, Vaujany has been home to farmers for many years and retains its rural atmosphere. Vaujany is part of the Grandes Rousses ski domain so you still have access to the whole Alpe d'Huez ski area.

With pistes up to 3300m, skiing and snowboarding is assured throughout the season. Skiing is extensive offering 270km of piste in the whole ski area. Although suitable for skiers of all abilities, advanced skiers will be happy with the long black runs, including the 16km Sarenne, the longest black run in Europe. For those a little less able there are 22 pistes dedicated to beginners and intermediates. Snowboarders will also not be disappointed as Vaujany and Alpe d'Huez offer great Terrain.

There are 450 snow cannons on the Vaujany / Oz slopes alone which prolong and enhance the snow conditions. An impressive 160-person cable car, one of the largest in the world links Vaujany with Alpe d'Huez (1,100m to 3,300m. Queuing is minimal, although New Year and half term are unavoidable exceptions.

If you are not a skier then do not despair as you are also catered for with guided snow walks or later in the season tramp through the flower filled meadows or the walking tracks. There is also an outdoor ice skating rink and sports centre with 25m swimming pool, gym, sauna and Jacuzzi. Alternatively do as the French do and linger over a lengthy lunch at one of the excellent restaurants in the village.

After a days skiing on world-class runs you can relax in an authentic Alpine ambience, without the commercial hype of most purpose-built resorts. Although the hamlet of Vaujany is small, it manages to boast a busy après-ski scene and the accommodation and facilities are the best.

La Villette is just 1km beyond Vaujany and the minibus shuttle can transport you from the main lift station to your chalet. Alternatively and snow conditions permitting you can ski back to within walking distance of your own front door.

For children aged 6 months to 5 years there is a traditional day nursery located in the village. English nursery assistants are employed to help with the abundance of activities that are planned for the little ones. For lively 4 and 5 year olds there are tailor made packages of activities at the ski kindergarten, including a morning on the slopes, supervised lunch and activities at the nursery during the afternoon. For children over 6 there is ski school with both morning and afternoons on the slopes –why not rendez vous with your children in the afternoon and do a few gentle ski runs ‘en famille’.
