Gemma
Although Gemma was born locally, she travelled extensively as a child with her family and from as young as 13, she knew she wanted to one day run her own hotel. Having completed a BA (Hons) in International Hospitality Management, Gemma went on to work in hotel management in Kenya and Jamaica.
Gemma loves the accessibility of travel. In merely a few hours you can travel to a destination that has not only a different climate to the one you have come from, but also language, culture, traditions, terrain and opportunities.
Although Gemma travels to the Caribbean frequently, her passion is for the Indian Ocean. She loves small, unique islands where you are a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Nothing beats the feel of the sand between your toes on a deserted beach.
Gemma's WOW travel tale comes from the first night she worked in a tented safari camp in Tsavo East National Game Park in Kenya. "During the night I heard lots of commotion outside my tent and started to get a little worried as I only had canvas separating me from the wild animals. I was so tired from my 6-hour drive to the camp that I soon fell fast asleep. At sunrise the next morning, all of the camp's staff came rushing over to my tent and seemed very concerned that I had had a good nights sleep and felt safe. What they later told me was that two male lions had been circling my tent for the entire night - I could even see the paw prints! Apparently that was my initiation into the wild...I had been accepted"
When Gemma is not travelling, she spends all her time with her husband Ray and young daughter Aurelia. Nothing makes her happier than hearing Aurelia laugh or watching her dance.
This photo of Gemma was taken at the Sphinx Temple, Giza, Egypt.
