Special family safari to Kenya Day 1 You will be warmly met on arrival and taken to the famous Norfolk Hotel for one night - this is still a central meeting place for many Kenyans who enjoy a drink in the verandah bar. Day 2 After breakfast a light aircraft will fly you up to the Samburu National Park - en route you will fly past the Aberdares and majestic snow capped Mt Kenya. Here your wonderful home under canvas for three nights is Elephant Watch, the home of Oria and Iain Douglas-Hamilton (Saba's parents), the founder and president of "Save the Elephants". Days 3 & 4 Your time here can be spent elephant watching with your expert guides & game drives into the Samburu National Park where you might see species of game unique to this arid part of Kenya: the gerenuk, a type of gazelle who stand on their hind legs when browsing off tall bushes, the reticulated giraffe & grevy zebra. Bird watching, hiking on the numerous trails surrounding the camp and if there is water in the river you can have a go at rafting. Day 5 Fly along the Rift Valley to the Mara and your home for the next 4 nights, the luxury tented camp, Mara Explorer. This is a very small camp on the Talek River right in the middle of the Maasai Mara - for those of you who follow Big Cat Diary you will not be disappointed! Morning and afternoon game drives in your own 4X4 vehicles - breakfasts in the bush, balloon safaris, sundowners... Days 6, 7 & 8 Game viewing - including lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, hippos, elephant, zebra & possibly a rhino - bird watching, visits to a Maasai settlement or relax by the river in your outside bath listening to the hippos in the river below. Day 9 Back to Nairobi and home to London. |
